Image aspect ratio changer

Compare crop and pad results without stretching. Set a common or custom ratio and download a correctly sized image.

Your photo, prepared your way.

Choose an image to start, or explore the included sample. Images are processed in this browser tab.

How to use it

  1. Import a static photo and select a common or custom ratio.
  2. Compare the crop and pad previews. Crop fills the frame; pad keeps the whole photo.
  3. Move the horizontal and vertical position controls to frame your subject.
  4. Choose output width, result type and format, then download.

The height is calculated from the target ratio. Integer pixel rounding may differ by one pixel. No mode stretches the image. When a preview needs enlargement, the resolution warning explains the loss of detail.

Questions, answered

What is the difference between crop and pad?

Crop scales proportionally until the frame is full and cuts off the excess. Pad scales until the whole image fits, leaving empty space around it.

Can I export a transparent background?

Use PNG or supported WebP. JPEG does not have transparency, so the app flattens transparent pixels to white or your selected background color.

What are the size limits?

Sources are limited to 20 MB and 30 megapixels. Each output side must be 32 to 4096 pixels, with no more than 16 million pixels in total.

Does this resize video?

No. This workspace supports static images only. GIF and animated PNG or WebP are rejected.

Choose a frame without distorting it

Crop when the frame must be filled

Crop discards material outside the target rectangle. Move the framing controls to protect faces, text or other subjects near the edge. Inspect the preview at the chosen output dimensions.

Pad when the whole source matters

Padding keeps every source pixel within the frame and adds transparent or colored space. Use PNG or WebP for transparency. JPEG flattens empty space, and larger pixel dimensions cannot recover missing detail.
